Level 1 Award in Fire Safety Awareness

Fire safety is vital and mandatory. For the care homes, fire safety is far more specialised than in other industries. You need to know how to help those with challenging behaviours and mobility to evacuate.

Participants will gain an overall understanding of what to do to make yourself and residents in your care safe.

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for all members of staff who require a basic understanding of fire safety.

Aim of the course

This course will provide employees with the knowledge they need to be able to make informed decisions to keep themselves and others safe and to take the right action should a fire occur.

What We Will Cover

• Understand basic fire safety and what to do in the event of an emergency, this includes identifying possible causes of workplace fires and how to reduce the risk, how to respond in an emergency, recognise own duties and responsibilities, identify the duties of a fire warden.

• Understand the basics of practical fire safety, this includes understanding the safe parameters for portable firefighting equipment and recognising simple checks to ensure firefighting equipment is safe to use.

• Understand the principles of fire risk assessment, this includes identifying key elements for effective fire risk management in the workplace, the fire triangle, identifying different fire risk control measures and recognising different fire prevention control methods.

Assessment

The course lasts 4 hours and will involve student participation, group activity and open discussions in a relaxed and informal learning environment.

Upon the successful completion of a multiple-choice questionnaire, a certificate will be awarded. Our experienced trainers will be on hand to help throughout.
