PAEDIATRIC EMERGENCY FIRST AID LEVEL 3: 2 Day Course

This course is aimed at those individuals who have a particular responsibility for the welfare of children or infants, who are in their care e.g., teachers, child minders, playgroup personnel. This course meets the standards laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EFYS) and Ofstead.

The course syllabus covers a wide range of first aid emergencies:

• Roles and responsibilities
• Assessment of the situation
• Resuscitation
• Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
• Wounds and bleeding
• Shock (Including Anaphylaxis)
• Minor injuries
• Epilepsy
• Infantile convulsions
• Sickle cell anaemia
• Heat and cold
• Fainting
• Foreign bodies
• Choking
• Fractures
• Asthma
• Meningitis

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course, by the instructor, through a range of practical scenarios. There is also a written assessment at the end of day 2. On successful completion of the course the learner will be issued with a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (Level 6 in Scotland). The qualification is valid for 3 years, although learners are recommended to attend an annual refresher within that period.
