Level 2 Award in Food Safety

Everyone who works in a care home where food is cooked, prepared or handled is required to have an understanding of food safety and hygiene and be able to demonstrate good practice.

Staff will learn how to handle food correctly and will be given all the relevant information on food safety including, cooking, cleaning, chilling and cross contamination.

Who is the course for?

This course is for all care home staff who are, or who could be, involved in preparing, handling or serving food.

Aim of the course

After attending this course, you will understand the importance of good food safety and hygiene and your legal obligations.

What We Will Cover

• Understand how individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety procedures, this will include the importance of food safety procedures, the principles of HACCP and legal responsibilities.

• Understand the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, this will include recognising the importance of personal hygiene in relation to food safety, in particular with contamination and identifying personal hygiene practices.

• Understand the importance of keeping work areas clean and hygienic, this will include identifying how to keep the work area and equipment clean and tidy, state how workflow, work surfaces and equipment can reduce contamination risks and aid cleaning and identify the importance of pest control.

• Understand the importance of keeping food safe, this will include identifying the sources and risks of food contamination and cross-contamination, food spoilage, safe handling procedures, temperature control and stock control.

Assessment

The course lasts 7 hours and will involve student participation, group activity and open discussions in a relaxed and informal learning environment.

Upon the successful completion of a multiple-choice questionnaire, a certificate will be awarded. Our experienced trainers will be on hand to help throughout.
