Julie Brown
Training and Development Manager

Julie Brown was promoted to Training Centre Manager at Capulet Care in September 2023, a role that recognises her extensive experience and commitment to excellence in health and social care education.

Julie’s career began in 1996 at Woodford House, where she started as a Kitchen Assistant while still in high school. Within six months, her passion for care led her to leave school and become a full-time Care Assistant. She quickly progressed, earning her Level 2 NVQ in Care, and was promoted to Senior Care Assistant within a year. Julie went on to complete her Level 3 and 4 NVQs in Care, the Registered Managers Award, and the D32/33 Assessors Award.

In 2005, Julie transitioned into a training and education role as a Health and Social Care Assessor for a private training provider. Over the next decade, she gained her V1 Internal Verifier qualification, PTLLS award, Level 3 NVQ in Customer Service, and a Level 4 Diploma in Initial Advice and Guidance, leading to her being given the title of Head of Quality and Quality Assurance Coordinator. She also trained as a Moving and Handling Instructor and built valuable experience in the apprenticeship framework as both an Assessor and Internal Verifier. In 2016, Julie briefly worked as a Care Co-ordinator for a private Home Care company.

Julie returned to Capulet Care in October 2016, playing a pivotal role in establishing the organisation’s training centre with the awarding body, i Can Qualify. She has since assessed and verified qualifications from Levels 2 to 5 in Health and Social Care and other care related qualifications and has mentored new assessors within the company. Her contributions have been instrumental in developing policies and procedures that enabled the delivery of Apprenticeships in Care starting in 2022.

Most notably, Julie served as the nominee during Quality of Care’s first full Ofsted inspection, where her leadership helped secure a ‘Good’ overall rating, with an ‘Outstanding’ in the category of Behaviours and Attitudes.

Dedicated to continuous development, Julie began studying part-time for a BSc in Health Science in January 2022, further demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning and the advancement of quality care education.

Scott Stevens
Assessor, Trainer

Scott began working for Quality of Care in March 2023 as a Trainer Assessor.

The responsibilities that come with the role of Trainer and Assessor require Scott to establish trusting relationships with learners, building strong rapport and maintaining a good understanding of the learning and support requirements of each individual person. Daily, Scott is responsible for delivering training to staff working within the Social Care sector, as well as assessing the work of learners, which has been submitted for various accredited qualifications including Diplomas Levels 2 to 5, and Functional Skills in English and Maths.

Scott has an extensive background in the healthcare environment, beginning as a school leaver on a Youth Training Scheme placement at Stafford District Hospital, being offered a permanent role as a Health & Social Care worker following successful completion of the scheme in 1992.

In 2000, Scott began studying for his Teaching & Assessing qualification and once attained, secured a position at Solihull College where he was responsible for overseeing apprenticeships within the department.

In 2005 Scott attained a further qualification in Level 4 Care Management, eventually moving out of the teaching field and into Home Management within the private sector. Over the next 10 years that followed, he managed two 40 bedded Care Homes.

Scott eventually returned to teaching and assessing in Health & Social Care, in 2015. He has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience within this area and qualifications including level 2 & 3 Health & Social Care, Level 4 Care Management, A1 & A2 assessor qualification and 7306 part 1 & 2 teaching qualification.

Claire Hopkins
Assessor, Trainer

Claire was appointed as an Assessor by Quality of Care in November 2021. Having worked for owner Juliet Briggs previously as part of the Care Team at Perton Manor, she was enthusiastic about the prospect of positively contributing to another field within the company which she was passionate about – Education.

Claire offers daily guidance and support to learners of all ages from age 16+ , adopting a patient, caring and individualised approach to each person she interacts with. She also delivers face to face training to groups of employees who provide care to vulnerable people.

Claire began her career in care 1993, working as a Care Assistant in a large EMI Nursing Home. Having spent time working for a temping agency, Claire has experienced various care environments, looking after individuals requiring support with complex medical conditions, learning disabilities and mental health. She went on to later complete Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in care, showing a depth of knowledge and ability to support individuals with care and compassion.

Claire later developed an interest in training and mentoring staff, wanting to ensure a high standard of care was being given to the individuals that needed support. She put herself through her teaching and assessing qualifications, while continuing to work in the care environment.

Claire has developed well in her role as an assessor and trainer, establishing a good and mutually trusting relationship with her learners. She is now looking forward to developing her knowledge and skills even further.

Daniel Keay
Trainer

Daniel joined Quality of Care as a Trainer in November 2024. His primary responsibility is to deliver face to face initial training, inductions and regular refreshers to people working within the Social Care sector. The sessions he delivers are interactive, with learners being given opportunities to demonstrate their current knowledge and skills, and participate in various topic related workshops.

Daniel has worked within the healthcare sector for over 10 years, in various roles including Senior Care and physiotherapy assistance. His first experience of training was with the Fire Brigade’s youth service, where he directed fire drills and mentored new recruits.

He particularly enjoys teaching Moving and Handling, Fire Safety, Data Security and Basic Life Support/First aid, and always endeavours to keep his learners engaged and stimulated, especially during any less ‘practical’ topics whereby learners can commonly lose focus.

Outside of work, Daniel competes in Light Saber Combat, ranked 8th in the UK and enjoys graphic design, video editing, 3D printing and electronics work.

He is looking forward to developing further in his role and taking advantage of any future opportunities which may arise.

Jackie Garratt
Training Administrator

Jackie was initially employed by Quality of Care in September 2022, as Training Administrator.

After transferring to Receptionist at Perton Manor for a short time, Jackie found she missed the role and was delighted when asked to return back to her Training Administrator position at Quality of Care in February 2024.

Day to day duties include keeping all staff training records up to date, maintaining the training matrix and training calendars across 3 busy care homes with around 400 staff in total, planning and scheduling internal/external training and providing administrative support to the Training Centre Manager. Jackie also maintains the organisation’s ASC system, which is a compliance system used to support funding for learners.

Beginning her career in the late 70s, Jackie acquired a wealth of experience in office environments and administration roles. After taking a career break to raise a family in the early 1990s, Jackie re-trained as a Teaching Assistant, where she supported Teachers, Governors, Pupils and their parents to achieve and excel in their environment.

Returning to an admin role in 2007, Jackie worked for a local estate agent, before becoming an Academic Support Assistant at The University of Wolverhampton Business School, where she remained for 14 years. After spotting the vacancy for Training Administrator with us in 2022, Jackie made the decision to apply and was very excited to come on board when offered the job.

Since joining Quality of Care, Jackie has learnt many new skills and increased her knowledge of bespoke computer packages and communications within the sector. She looks forward to continuing to excel in her role.
