Who is the course for?

This qualification is aimed at anyone working in a healthcare or social care environment, who wish to gain an understanding in the prevention and control of infection.

Aim of the course

The purpose of this qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding in infection control including the principles and prevention particularly in the context of health and social care.

The qualification covers the importance of good infection control practices and the implications these can have on the worker and individuals they care for. The qualification provides the learner with the underpinning knowledge and understanding of the prevention and control of infections in healthcare settings and will support their role in the workplace.

Understanding the principles of effective decontamination, cleaning and waste management to reduce the risk of infection

Understanding the principles of infection control

Understanding the causes and spread of infection

Principles of good practice in the prevention of infection

Assessment

To achieve this qualification via certification through the awarding body, iCQ; learners must achieve 15 credits.

iCQ qualifications are internally assessed, primarily through the creation of a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio demonstrates the learner's achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

Evidence can include observation of performance, examination of products, questioning, professional discussion, reflective accounts, and witness testimony.
