Nutrition and Hydration

It is vital that those in care receive the correct nutrition and hydration whilst maintaining choice and independence. This course provides an introduction to the dietary needs of the elderly, so that the right diet choices can be made available and nutrition concerns identified and reported.

Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at any member of staff who works in health and social care.

Aim of the course

Participants will gain a good understanding of the importance of nutrition and hydration in people with Dementia and the impact of malnutrition and dehydration.

What will we cover

• Principles of hydration and nutrition

• Identify the symptoms of poor nutrition and hydration

• Importance of mealtimes

• Conditions affected by diet and lifestyle, in accordance with IDDSI.

• Identify reasons for poor eating

Assessment

The course lasts 4 hours and will involve student participation, group activity and open discussions in a relaxed and informal learning environment.

Upon the successful completion of a multiple-choice questionnaire, a certificate will be awarded. Our experienced trainers will be on hand to help throughout.

Important Information

This course is vital to ensure you have the skills to recognise the importance of nutrition and hydration. This training will also assist Health and Social Care diploma students with their learning.
